The Mushroom

Round 1: Begin by creating a 'Magic Ring', CH3 (this counts as the first DC), DC 11 into the magic ring, SL ST into the first DC. (12)

If you aren't a fan of the magic ring, CH4, SL ST into the first chain, CH3, then DC 11 times into the ring, pull yarn to close the centre, SL ST into first DC,

Round 2: CH3 (this counts as the first DC), DC into the same stitch, 2DC into each stitch around, SL ST into the first stitch. (24)

Round 3: CH3 (this counts as the first DC), DC into the same stitch, *DC in the next stitch, 2DC in next stitch* repeat around, SL ST into the first DC. (36)

Round 4: CH4, 2TR into the same stitch, TR into the next stitch, DC into the next stitch, HDC into the next 7 stitches, DC into the next stitch, TR into the next stitch, 3TR into the next 2 stitches, TR into the next stitch, DC into the next 4 stitches, HDC into the next 11 stitches, DC into the next 4 stitches, TR into the next stitch, 3TR into the last stitch, fasten off with an invisible join into the top of the CH4. (44)

Invisible join

Cut your yarn leaving a long tail (roughly 4-5 inches) pull the tail through and thread your darning needle. Insert your needle through the first SC at the start of the round. Pull the yarn tight but not too tight. insert the needle into the back loop of the last SC and pull through the loop and behind the stitch. this creates a false stitch.

The Stem

Row 1: Turn the mushroom upside down and join your yarn at the bottom of the mushroom in the first HDC (see photo for reference). HDC into the next 6 HDC stitches, CH1 and turn your work.

Rows 2-3: HDC into each stitch, CH1 and turn your work. At the end of row 3, CH1 and fasten off.

The Dots

Thread your darning needle with the remaining off-white yarn and sew the dots onto the mushroom as big/small as you'd like. Once you're finished, turn the mushroom over, tie the loose ends in a knot and weave them in.

Weave in your ends and you’re all done!
